Local: Kitano Jazz Club -New York - Manhattan
Data: 22-04-2017 20:00

Resumo:
Kendra Shank - voice Billy Drewes - saxophones Frank Kimbrough - piano Jay Anderson - bass Vocalist Kendra Shank convenes a group of longtime collaborators to celebrate her birthday with music at the intimate Jazz at Kitano. Shank's association with pianist Frank Kimbrough began in 1992 when jazz legend Shirley Horn presented them at the Village Vanguard. Since then, they've collaborated on four CDs and multiple club and festival dates nationwide. Tenor and soprano saxophonist Billy Drewes, also a frequent bandmate, appears on two of Shank's CDs and weaves contrapuntal lines with the vocalist. Bassist Jay Anderson, a longtime member of Kimbrough's ensembles (and both of them members of Maria Schneider Orchestra) completes the group. This drumless setting provides an open fluidity and sonic pallette attuned to Shank's predilection for sound-painting and group interplay. Kendra Shank combines contemporary jazz songs, re-imagined standards, world music, folk/pop tunes, and open improvisation in an adventurous, genre-bending style that inspired Gary Giddins to call her "one of New York's most original performers" (Jazz Times). Her newest CD Half Moon, with pianist Geoffrey Keezer, received 4 stars in DownBeat's April issue.
